NEW COMMITTEE
As most of you will be aware by now the club has a new committee, voted in at the AGM on July 22nd. I’d like to just take a minute to introduce to you to your new committee, for those of you who do not know who they are.
They are:

President - Dennis Malone
Vice President - Glenn Hines
Secretary - Stephen Smith
Treasurer - Cathy Malone
Range Captain - Lincoln Smith

We hope that you will give these guys your full support, because it’s not easy being on the committee. These guys can’t do the jobs they’ve taken on alone and help is always needed in one form or another. While I’m on this note I’d like to just take a moment on behalf of everyone at the club, to thank the previous committee for all of their hard work. Stephen Brown, Peter Popovic, Don Honey, Elva Smith, & Chris Smith…thanks guys for a huge effort.

NEW MEMBERS
We’d also like to just take a minute to welcome our newest member to join us, Johnathan Hicks. We hope you

enjoy your time at the club and don’t forget if you have any questions just ask any of the committee members for help.

THE MURRENBONG SHOOT
Due to many hidden costs the committee has decided to move our QLD Series shoot from Kilcoy. Some great new grounds have been secured at the Murrenbong Scout Camp, Kurwongbah. If you know where the Lakeside Bowmen (ABA) club is then you will find the Scout Camp directly across the road. Kurwongbah is at the back of Petrie, so not far from home and pretty easy to find. Just have a look in the latest UBD Map 87, Ref P11.

The shoot is to be held on September 29th & 30th and the usual 3DAAA shoot fees apply. Don’t forget there is no longer a $7.50 temporary membership fee for non 3DAAA members, so tell all of your friends.

There will be camping onsite for a low fee of $5 per site for the whole weekend. There is also a bunkhouse (BYO linen) on the grounds, which again will cost you $5 for the weekend or $10 for a family of 4 for the weekend. There are also hot showers, flushing toilets and a

communal campfire for a great night of chatter, plus catering from Friday night to Sunday lunch. It should be a great shoot and the scout camp has some fantastic grounds for some top shots. Again help will be needed as it will be a very busy weekend. So if you can help out in the canteen, with the ranges, or general set up of the shoot, please contact Dennis or Stephen ASAP. Your help will be greatly appreciated. We are looking for sponsors for this shoot as well. A small donation for advertising on a target, and space on our website for 12 months. If you know of anyone who might be interested please contact Stephen Smith on 5498 7123 for more details.

SE QLD INVITATIONAL FINAL
Our club hosted the final for the SE QLD Invitational Series this year and what a fantastic weekend was had by all. The set up for this shoot was a little bit last minute, with the change of committee but gee they did well and it was a credit to them how well the shoot ran. No hiccups or problems and everything went very smoothly. The course though were being organized a week before the shoot, with Lincoln trying to fit in 30

targets. With such small grounds it's a bit of a squeeze, but I think everyone will agree that he and his co- conspirators, Adrian and Dwayne did a great job. There were some tricky shots set out and I think a huge favourite was the standing bear on Sunday, who was ummm, having a lie down…hee hee. Yep, the boys laid him down so you had to shoot him on the side score zone…quite different! Huge thanks to Cathy who ran and organized the canteen for the weekend. She did a fantastic job and kept everyone well fed with delicious bacon and egg rolls for breaky, hot dogs for lunch, plus a great steak dinner for those who camped. Campers started arriving on Friday and from all accounts they had a “merry” night talking and drinking around the campfire until all hours of the night. A bunch of guys and girls even came down from Gladstone for the shoot, which was great!

There were some huge prizes up for grabs during this series, and with lots of money and prizes up for grabs the scoring took a little while. The barebow Top 10 was held on Saturday afternoon with Martin Clarke winning in just one round. The sighted Top 10 was held on Sunday to keep the archers entertained while the scores were being tallied. Grant Buckeridge emerged the winner of that shoot out and won himself a $150 voucher from Canga Archery Supplies. Martin won a $100 voucher from Archery Shak at Grafton. Other prizes included vouchers for the winners of the recurve and Traditional divisions, most improved juniors, winners of all the junior and cubs divisions and vouchers from Critters for every winner in ALL divisions.

Mick and Tahnia from Critters also donated 4 3D targets ($2,100 in total donations), which were awarded to the winners of 4 divisions picked from a hat. The lucky winners were Margie Popovic (FBO), Grant Buckeridge (MBO), Gordon Bell (CUBA) and Jacqui Callon (FBR).

Also the lucky door prize was drawn by Antony Goyen from Gecko Archery. Antony and Vortex kindly donated a pair of binoculars worth $870, and for every shoot you attended a raffle ticket was placed in the box with your name on it. The winner pulled out of the box by Antony was our very own Stephen Smith. Congratulations Stephen, what an awesome prize to win. (See the photo on the front page) Although it wasn’t presented at the shoot Neil Digweed from Delta McKenzie Australia also donated a great prize of a 3D target to the winning club in this series. The winning club was Ipswich, who had the highest average over all 4 shoots. Huge thanks to all the sponsors who helped make this shoot such a success. YATALA 2007
Everybody knew what was in store for them at Yatala this year with Istvan Wolf as the 3D range captain. Tough courses!! With rain forecast we went along praying that the weather Gods would be good to us. For the most part they were, but we did get some rain on Sunday. Thankfully, the worst of it hit after we’d finished shooting though. Three courses were set out on Saturday and Istvan was there to direct everyone to one of the courses, where they were to start shooting. This made for a pretty even spread across the field and the day flowed nicely with no back ups. As expected though the courses were very tricky and long, with the average from the green peg around 35yds. On the other end of the scale the Cubs pegs were quite close on one course and I know Jayden shot a personal best 97 on that course. Considering he shoots barebow though, that’s a huge achievement. I think the rest of us all struggled though with some well thought out target placement, and there were lots of sob stories at the end of the first day. The Top 10 was held in the late afternoon, as the sun was going down. Sighted first, which none of our guys made it into, but Dwayne was just 1 point short and Chris Smith just 5 points short. Never mind guys…there’s always next time! The sighted Top 10 was won in two rounds by Paul Malynn, who fought it out against Darryl Bulger. The barebow Top 10 was held next and Gary Penshorn made it in, and was the winner with a top shot in a one round elimination. Congratulations Gary  The guys at North Albert put on a beautiful spit roast for dinner with barbequed ham and veggies, followed by apple pie or carrot cake with ice cream and custard…yummy! There were not too many camping there this year, perhaps the fear of the rain or the cold winter we’ve had scared them away, but the Caboolture crowd had a great night sitting around the big communal fire talking and drowning our sorrows.

Sunday morning came and the weather didn’t look fantastic but we hit the courses hoping the rain would stay away. Two courses today on the same side of the road as the club house and these were set by Mick Watts. That meant they were much friendlier, although still tricky, but not so many long ones and a few shorter ones to get your confidence back on. One thing the guys did do this year was to start every single course with a turkey of some description. So if you missed the 10 on the turkey there was no pressure, you knew straight away you weren’t going to get a 100…ha ha! Today we shot the big bison, and many would say “how can you miss that thing”, well believe me its possible….no, I didn’t miss it but I’ve heard that some people did. My favourite shot would have to have been the croc across the dam…what a tough shot to get your distance on and such a skinny target too. I shot him in the eyeball…and believe me I was just happy to have hit him! The rain started just as we started the second course for the day, but it was only a light shower at that stage. Presentations got under way after lunch and Caboolture did quite well as always. Scores for the weekend will be up on the website soon, and there was at least one error that I know of, so once that is fixed we will know the true standings, but congratulations to the following club members who were awarded a place at the presentation:

Jacqui Callon – 1st place FBR
Dwayne Callon – 1st place MBF
Gary Penshorn – 1st place TRAD
Lincoln Smith – 1st place YMF
Adrian Smith – 2nd place YMR 15 – 17yrs
Jayden Callon – 1st place CUBU

Although these results are yet to be confirmed I can also tell you that these members just missed out on the trophies, but did exceptionally well:

Margie Popovic – 4th place FBO
Chris Smith – 4th place MBR
Mark Wilcher – 7th place MBR

Dennis Malone – 8th place MBR
Melinda Smith – 4th place FBR
Gary Abbott – 6th place MBF
Peter Popovic – 4th place MSR

The only thing that marred the weekend was that Rob and Sally Donnelly were involved in a car accident on their way to the shoot on Friday afternoon. I’m pleased to say that they are both ok, as is Ethan who was in the car with them, but I believe their car did not fair too well. Both Rob and Sally were feeling very sore on Saturday morning and had to have their trailer towed home by Chris Wakely. I’m sure you will all join us in wishing them a speedy recovery.
